DiCaprio Resurrecting Cult Sci-Fi Hit

July 26th, 2008 by Jencala , Category : News

As if dating supermodels and leading the “green” bandwagon wasn’t enough, actor and conservationist Leonardo DiCaprio is trying to resurrect the classic Twilight Zone series on the big screen. Warner Bros. and DiCaprio’s production company, Appian Way, have put out feelers for pitches and script ideas to take the cult hit to theaters for a future product.

Although Appian Way is not known for science fiction productions, Twilight Zone is said to be DiCaprio’s favorite show. The companies aren’t looking to make an episodic feature like the 1983 film adaptation, but are looking to build a story line on one or more continuing episodes.

The Dark Knight; a quick opinion

July 18th, 2008 by Jencala , Category : News

With so much media hype surrounding it for the last year, the newest incarnation of Batman, The Dark Knight has finally hit theaters. The much anticipated sequel to 2005’s Batman Begins brings back Christian Bale as billionaire Bruce Wayne and alter ego Batman, who this time must face the psychopathic Joker, played to perfection by the late Heath Ledger. Rounding out the primary cast is Aaron Eckhart as Harvey Dent, Maggie Gyllennhaal taking over for Katie Holmes as Rachel Dawes, and Gary Oldman returning as Lt. James Gordon.

This sequel is much darker and grittier than the first, and by far the most realistic comic-book-turned-movie I have yet seen. Director Christopher Nolan brings a dark reality to the world of Gotham and his use of live shots rather than relying on excessive CGI makes for a cinematic epic from the first panoramic shots of Gotham to the jolting end of the two and a half hour ride.

Much of the hype surrounding the film is due to the premature death of Heath Ledger. When casting was announced for this sequel, I questioned the decision of placing Ledger in the role of The Joker. Even after preliminary reviews and the inevitable talk of Oscar buzz surrounding it, speculation did turn to his only being awarded this high level of criticism due to his tragic demise. After watching his performance, all I can say is that the franchise has to now put the Joker to rest because it would be a herculean task for any other actor to follow in Ledger’s footsteps. The late actor was breathtaking in his terrifyingly psychotic performance, completely embodying the character and adding new depths that the previous incarnations never remotely came close to.

If you are one of the few people who have yet to see The Dark Knight, run, don’t walk, to your nearest theater. It is by far the best film released this year.

New Heavy Metal Movie on the way

March 14th, 2008 by Al , Category : News

Heavy Metal Logo

Paramount Pictures has announced it will be making a new animated film based on the ’70s sci-fi fantasy magazine Heavy Metal, with director David Fincher spearheading the project.

The new “Heavy Metal” film will consist of eight or nine individual animated segments, each of which will be directed by a different person.

Fincher will direct one of the segments; Kevin Eastman, the “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” co-creator who is now owner and publisher of Heavy Metal, will direct another. So will Tim Miller, whose Blur Studios will handle the animation for what is being conceived as an R-rated, adult-themed feature.

Fincher, Eastman and Miller will produce the film. The studio will lock in the other directors shortly. The mag previously spawned a 1981 animated feature and 2000 sequel.

The Lost Boys 2: The Tribe Trailer

March 13th, 2008 by Rene , Category : News

This the trailer to the sequel of Lost Boys and yes after some back and forth looks like both COREYs will be in the movie!

Synopsis according to IMDB:
The sequel to the 1987 cult hit The Lost Boys takes us to the shady surf city of Luna Bay, California, where vampires quickly dispatch anyone who crosses their path. Into this dark world arrive Chris Emerson (Hilgenbrink) and his younger sister, Nicole (Reeser). Having just lost their parents in a car accident, the siblings move in with their eccentric Aunt Jillian and become new prey for the locals way of life. When Nicole unwittingly falls for a local vampire, Chris must locate and destroy the gangs lifeline before his sisters transformation is complete; to do this Chris finds himself relying on the expertise of none other than Edgar Frog (Feldman). Subtle references to characters from the original film, and cameos from returning actors offer homage to the Lost Boys legend and set a sinister tone of impending doom.
