Doctor Who Season 4 PremiereApril 4th, 2008 by Jencala , Category : TV
This week marks the return of the BBC’s hugely popular Doctor Who, airing this side of the pond on the SCI FI Channel Friday night. Season 4 (or Series 4 as the Brits prefer) promises to be a wild ride for fans of the show with David Tennant reprising his role as the Doctor, this time joined by Donna Noble, played by Catherine Tate, as his companion.
The return of Donna Noble, who was first introduced in the 2006 Christmas episode, brings mixed emotions from fans, many speculating that the loud-mouthed, pull-no-punches style of the character grated on too many nerves on her previous pairing with the Doctor. However, Donna won’t be the only companion for the Doctor this season. Freema Agyeman will return sometime mid-season as Martha Jones as a full-fledged doctor herself, now a member of Unit. Fans will remember Martha departed at the end of last season after realizing that her feelings for the Doctor ran too deep and her return will surely cause some conflict with the two companions.
Most exciting to long time fans is the possible return of Billie Piper’s character, Rose Tyler, who is rumored to have a major part int the season 4 multi-part finale. Series producer Russell T. Davies will have one heck of a time explaining how Rose has returned after Season 2’s ending where Rose was seemingly permanently stranded on a parrallel earth with her new family, the bridge between the two worlds permanently closed. Davies will surely make her re-emergence believable as well as compelling.
Season 4 promises to be a thrilling ride with rumors suggesting Donna will challenge the Doctor several times making him question his views, the return of a few well loved characters and some infamous villains, as well as some of the most challenging adventures to date. Tune in Fridays to the Sci Fi Channel to see what Season 4 has in store.
