J.J. Abrams’ Cloverfield: The mystery Trailer in front of Transformers

CloverField

If you went to see Transformers this past week then you are aware of the mystery trailer for the secret J.J. Abrams movie project known only as Cloverfield. Everyone is trying to play C.S.I. on this one speculating that it might be a new Godzilla movie(me included) or a “Lost” movie, still others have come up with the most absurd ideas under the sun like one guy in the theater who bet his friend 50 bucks that it was a new “Power Rangers” movie. For God sakes people calm down this is J.J. Abrams you knew he was going to do it to you if he ever did a big Hollywood movie. Sooner or later details will come out and everything will be explained. For now though new official details have been popping up all over the net including casting details, shooting details, and some more minor updates. So here goes.

First, the official viral website can be found at http://www.1-18-08.com it’s just an interesting placeholder for now no info. The other site that has been tied to the movie is http://www.ethanhaaswasright.com. Provided you can figure out the puzzle it provides more clues to what is going on and to who is Ethan Haas.

Second the Hollywood Reporter had some details on casting with names attached:

The casting process was just as mysterious. No scripts or even scene pages were sent out; agents who were contacted were simply asked if their client wanted to be in the movie or not. Eventually a cast, made up mostly of relative unknowns, was put together; it includes Michael Stahl-David (”The Black Donnellys”), Odet Jasmin, Mike Vogel (”Supercross”) and Lizzy Kaplan (”The Class”).

It has also been confirmed that Matt Reeves is directing a script written by Drew Goddard (who’s written previously for Abrams’ “Lost” and “Alias”). So it is rumored that he most likely might be the director to Cloverfield though this is just speculation. Damn I really hate it when Abrams does this he really likes to reel me in with a good mystery!

Also some internet sources are reporting that the film is being shot for only $30 million. This might be due to the fact that it’s being filmed completely on hand-held home video cameras according to Ain’t it Cool News. The film has been said to have begun shooting in New York around mid-June and centers “around a monster attack in New York as told from the point of view of a small group of people. Some sources have named this “giant monster” as something called “the parasite”, but again these are just rumors.

J.J. Abrams is confirmed as being at Comic-Con so something will probably pop up there. Till then we will have to wait till January 18th to see what good old J.J. has in store for us. One thing is for sure though the net will be full of chatter about this movie for the coming months and the best part will be all the stupid speculations that will be dreamt up before the movie’s release.
