Boxcar Astronaut - Webcomic Review

June 26th, 2007 by Al

Let me start off by simply saying - I love Boxcar Astronaut!

BoxCar Astronaut

Boxcar Astronaut by Jeff Carter and Marc Lapierre is one of those webcomics that comes around once in a while and makes you glad you discovered it when the comic was still young (no pun intended). It’s a fun little comic that reminds you of what it was like to be a kid and how much fun you could have with just your imagination and a cardboard box. At the same time it has that “come back factor” which is integral to the longevity and popularity of any webcomic. Ever since strip number one I have come back every week too see what’s going to happen. So far it has not disappointed me.

Jeff Carter the writer of Boxcar Astronaut has done a great job so far. His characters seem to have a kid friendly charm. Ben and Devin remind me of myself and my brother at that age. They talk like kids and act like kids. Unlike other webcomics where the children seem to be more adult that the adults. In short Jeff makes his characters believable but still interesting enough to carry the story along.

Marc Lapierre is the artist on Boxcar Astronaut. His art style fits this story perfectly. It is easy on the eyes and flows from panel to panel. Not an easy task. Especially when you only have four panels to work with. Marc manages to put enough detail into each one to tell the story but not overload you. I have been to Marc’s website and his body of work includes some very nice looking colored pieces as well. Although not necessary; I hope he tries to incorporate some color work into the strip in the future.

Boxcar Astronaut is definitely a must read. I have recommended it to every one I know. Now I am recommending it to whomever is reading this review. Get over to their site and read it. You’ll be glad you did and if you get a chance vote for them on Buzzcomix.net , Topwebcomics.com and thewebcomiclist.com. They deserve it.

Check out a new episode of BoxCar Astronaut every Sunday.
