All I can say when I heard this news in the car in the morning was WTF? This lady is really demented and she is in our space program? NASA really has to do better background checks or give their astronauts psyche tests. Kind of makes you wonder if any weird thoughts go through their heads while they are up there in zero gravity. One day they might think its funny and fire some experimental top-secret laser weapon at us. Now that’s a scary thought! Well anyways here’s the story in a nutshell.

A NASA astronaut was charged on Tuesday Feb 6 with attempting to kidnap a fellow female astronaut who was supposedly involved with another male astronaut. She is facing charges including attempted murder, attempted kidnapping, and attempted vehicle burglary with battery, destruction of evidence and battery.

According to authorities, Nowak believed another woman, Colleen Shipman, was romantically involved with Navy Cmdr. William Oefelein a fellow male astronaut. When Nowak found out Shipman was flying to Orlando from Houston, Nowak decided to confront her early Monday, according to the arrest affidavit.

Police reported Nowak drove from 900 miles Houston to Orlando wearing a disguise and diapers in the car so she wouldn’t have to stop to go to the bathroom. Astronauts wear diapers during launch and re-entry. She waited for Shipman’s plane to land and then boarded the same airport shuttle bus Shipman was taking to get to her car. Shipman told police she noticed someone following her and hurried to get to car. She then got inside and locked the doors. Nowak tried to get into the car and when Shipman rolled down the car window Nowak sprayed pepper spray into her car, according to the arrest report. Shipman immediately drove to the parking lot booth and police were called.

When police arrived they followed Nowak and watched her throw away a bag with a wig and BB gun. Police also found a steel mallet, a 4-inch folding knife, rubber tubing, $600 and garbage bags inside a bag Nowak was carrying when she was arrested.
