You don’t need to spend your time reading this review. You need to go get your lawn chair, waiting-in-line-all-night snacks, and line up at the theatre with the biggest screen you can find to watch it.
This was supposed to be Disney and Pixar’s last picture together. When the Suits at Disney got a look at the early footage of this movie they did the only logical thing; they made an offer to buy Pixar. There was no way that Disney was going to let Pixar compete against them.
John Lasseter (The Incredibles, Finding Nemo and Monsters Inc.) directed from a script by Robert L. Baird (Chicken Little and Monsters Inc.) and Dan Fogelman (The 12th Man and Like Family). In a world empty of humans and populated by various types of cars, Owen Wilson (Wedding Crashers and the Big Bounce) plays Lighting McQueen, a cocky thoughtless race car who gets lost in the middle of the night going to California and winds up in a dying town on Route 66. A humorous misunderstanding ensues (more like a disaster). McQueen winds up in front of Doc, the local judge, played by Paul Newman ( Road to Perdition and When Time Ran Out) who sentences McQueen to restore the damage he has done after Sally the town prosecutor played by Bonnie Hunt (Cheaper by the Dozen and the Green Mile) convinces him.
Now McQueen has to repair the damage he has done and in the process learn how to drive and become a better “person”.
I have told you enough of the plot. What you really need to do is to go see this movie and enjoy the details of the animation that went into it. After you see it, go back and watch it again and when it comes out on DVD, buy it!
